In order to apply for service you will need the following:
One photo ID (or two forms of non-photo ID)
Driver’s License, Passport, Military ID, Visa, Social Security Card, etc.
When establishing service by phone, your social security number may be used to verify ID.
Right to Occupy documentation
Lease/Rental Agreement, HUD Settlement Papers, Signed Purchase Contract, Deed (Property ownership verification may be available via TN Property Data website)
Membership Fee
If you are not currently a member with CEMC, a $10 membership fee will be required in order to join the electric co-op.
Service Charge – Meter Set Fee
A one-time $35 meter set fee is required on all connecting accounts. This is a non-refundable fee collected in advance of the service being setup.
Security Deposit
A security deposit of twice the average bill for a location (or $250 for new structures) is required. New applicants for service may elect to have a credit check run to determine eligibility for a deposit waiver.
Date to Begin Service
CEMC guarantees next day service for no additional cost.
Services that have been inactive for at least 12 months will require proof of an electrical safety inspection prior to being reconnected.

Refund of Deposit: On residential services the security deposit is refunded after 36 months with no late payments or refunded on the final bill if the member moves out of our service area. On commercial and industrial services the security deposit is held until the account is closed.
If I move do I have to pay another deposit? We will transfer your deposit to your new location provided service can be disconnected within 3 days at the former location. Past due balances must be paid upon transfer.

The service charge in the amount of $35.00 is for setting up your account. A $10 membership fee, regardless of number of meters, will be required of each individual receiving service from CEMC. The fee is refunded when the individual no longer has service with CEMC. More cost information is below:

The installation and maintenance of various types of security lighting is available for a monthly rental fee.

The permit must be purchased in the county where the property is located and the work is being done.
Who May Purchase an Electrical Permit?
1) Any individual or company that presents proof of current license (LLE, CE, E with B) by the Board for Licensing Contractors; or
2) Is a homeowner that resides at the location identified on the electrical permit and will be performing his or her own electrical
installation; or
3) Is a person(s) licensed in accordance with local jurisdiction rules; or
4) Is a person(s) wishing to establish a temporary electrical service only;

Note for Property Owner’s Electrical Permit
Property owners may perform electrical work (for which an inspection is required) upon his/her own residence, provided that he/she first applies for and obtains a property owner’s electrical permit. This type of permit can be utilized for any electrical installation performed on the property owner’s land. This includes barns, garages, outbuildings, exterior lighting, pools, play houses and other similar installations. * Rental property is excluded and requires a licensed electrician to obtain a permit.
Non-Standard Electrical Fee Form: (Service Sizes in excess of 1,000 amperes)Both the electrical contractor and the deputy electrical inspector will agree on the number of inspections to be performed and both will sign the nonstandard electrical inspection fee form. The electrical permit fee is negotiable with the deputy electrical inspector and must be collected at the time of execution of these forms. Please refer to the table, which lists the electrical inspectors with their respective inspection territories and contact phone numbers.

Who May Purchase an Electrical Permit?

It is the policy of Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation to provide service to new consumers in a fair and equitable manner. When there is reasonable assurance of adequate revenue to cover CEMC's investment, there will be no charge for line extensions to serve the load. The following guidelines will be used to determine when there will be a charge for a line extension.
PERMANENT RESIDENTIAL DWELLINGS
1. Those desiring a primary line extension from a CEMC distribution facility will be required to pay an aid-to-construction charge of $10.00 per power line foot. This aid-to-construction charge will be paid to CEMC prior to construction.
2. Prior to beginning work on any line extension, CEMC may require that the permanent residential dwelling be ready for occupancy. This will include an approval of wiring from the Deputy State Electrical Inspector, water under pressure, and sanitary sewage facilities among other requirements.
MOBILE HOMES LOCATED ON INDIVIDUAL LOTS
All primary single phase extensions to mobile homes located on individual lots will be provided to the applicant if the following requirements are met:
1. The owner of the mobile home owns the lot on which it will be located or has control of the lot.
2. The mobile home has water under pressure attached to it, either from a well or a public water system.
3. The mobile home is attached to a sewage system, either septic tank or publicly-owned system.
4. The electric service to the mobile home is of a permanent nature; that is, overhead service from the CEMC pole to an approved underground circuit from the pole to the mobile home.
Where the mobile home owner requires electric service and cannot meet the above requirements, service may be extended at unrecoverable costs for the entire length of the line extension. Where the requirements are met, the primary distribution line will be extended at the cost of eight dollars ($10.00) per power line foot. This cost will be paid to CEMC prior to construction.
TEMPORARY SERVICE FOR CONSTRUCTION PURPOSES
Line extensions will not be made for temporary services unless there is reasonable assurance a permanent structure will be built or aid-to-construction may be required. In that case those desiring line extensions from an existing CEMC distribution facility will be required to pay an aid-to-construction charge of $10.00 per power line foot. This aid-to-construction charge will be paid to CEMC prior to construction.
Line extensions less than 50 kw to barns, pumps, grain bins, shops, permanent outdoor signs, and other similar type services shall be charged at $10.00 per power line foot and payment made prior to construction. All those desiring single phase underground extensions from a CEMC distribution facility will be required to pay total work order cost (full cost).
COMMERCIAL SERVICES (Over 50 kW)
Commercial services over 50 kW will be extended at total work cost (full cost) and may require the execution of a power contract between the consumer and CEMC.
